Hughes Creek Road gate remains in place

by Eve Bryon, Ravalli Republic

“The gate across Hughes Creek Road remains in place after families who live beyond the closed area successfully sought a temporary restraining order prohibiting its removal at this time.

Ravalli County officials had ordered Jay and Tracy Bugli to take down the gate, since it’s on their property. If the Bugli’s refused, the county said it would take out the gate on Aug. 1, and possibly fine the family.

The Buglis, along with Wade, Charlene and Violet Cox, filed a lawsuit seeking the restraining order July 31. It was granted the next day by Judge Jeffrey Langton, who set a hearing on the matter for Aug. 14.

Ravalli County Commissioner Jeff Burrows said based on the lawsuit, they’re in a ‘holding pattern’ regarding the gate’s removal.

‘Right now, we’re just letting everything run its course,’ Burrows said. ‘We’re waiting for the judge to make his ruling, then we’ll get together with legal counsel and strategize.’ ”
