John Gibson Singing, “This Land Is Your Land”

Did you know PLWA’s Vice-President, John Gibson, plays a mean ukelele?

Here he is playing a version of Woody Guthries, This Land Is Your Land. This was filmed off the Yellowstone River at Fish, Wildlife & Park’s Buffalo Mirage Fishing Access Site (our public land and water). We just had to share!

Guthrie often tinkered with his song lyrics over the years. In one version, Guthrie wrote about a “No Trespassing” sign.

“As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said ‘No Trespassing.’
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.”

As a retired Forest Service employee, who remains passionate about public lands and access, John has followed Guthrie’s lead with his own twist on the lyrics…

“As I was walking that mountain highway

I saw a sign said ‘Private Driveway’

But on the other side said ‘National Forest’

These lands belong to you and me.”
