PLWA 2018 ANNUAL MEETING

MAY 2018

This years PLWA General Membership Meeting was held in Livingston. In addition to registering new and renewing members, PLWA also drew for the annual raffle at the meeting, which is a significant portion of our funding. Thank you Carol Fox, for helping with the registration.

Re-elected to the Board of Directors: John Gibson, as Vice President and Tony Schoonen.

Thanks so much to everyone for the support.

Our Guest speaker was FWP’s Access Bureau Chief, Jason Kool, who discussed FWP’s Block Management and 2018 Other Access Projects. Russ Vance was given a Lifetime Membership award in recognition of his past and ongoing support.

Russ was the first PLWA member to establish “Planned Giving”, to help support PLWA. “I have been involved with PLWA since near the beginning. This included meetings with founders Gene Hawkes and Ron Stephens many years ago. Since then, I always wanted to give more time to the organization, but other activities stood in the way. But there are ways members without time to volunteer can make a big difference. I found that a gift annuity fit me to a tee. I am a stock trader, and was lucky enough to have a sizeable taxable gain.

I was looking for a way to 1/ reduce my taxes, 2/ help my favorite charitable organization, and, 3/ MOST IMPORTANT gain a guaranteed lifetime income at a high interest rate. A gift annuity does all 3.” You can read more about giving to PLWA here.

MONTANA Conservation Campout

PLWA is encouraging members to participate & don’t forget to wear your hat!

The C. M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge acquired new acreage through the Land & Water Conservation Fund, and there is still some old fencing the Fish & Wildlife Service needs to remove from wildlife corridors. After making significant progress during our 2017 campout in the CMR, we’re excited to continue our habitat improvement work in the area.

*Montana Special: a wild game cookout will take place Saturday evening!*

Treat this weekend as if you were going camping. Bring your outdoors gear, tent and bag, and enough food to see you through the weekend. We’ll have snacks and beer, and in this case a wild game cookout, but it’s good to be prepared!
