If you are already a PLWA member for the year, thank you. We welcome additional donations to further support PLWA’s mission. Please donate below and choose the option for “Additional Donations” in the drop down menu for where to direct your support.

To donate by mail, mail checks to:

PLWA
2100 Fairway Drive, Suite 211
Bozeman, MT 59715

PLWA depends upon membership donations to support our efforts to investigate access complaints, hold outreach events, create and enhance partnership programs, and fight cases in court when access is closed off illegally. Your contributions not only help to keep PLWA thriving, your feedback, ideas, and volunteer hours help us meet the needs of people across Montana.

Other Ways to Give

Bequests

Making a bequest is simple but makes an enormous difference to what PLWA is able to accomplish. Let your advisor know your intent, and they will be able to put the appropriate language into your will. If you already have a will, there is no need to rewrite it; your lawyer can add a bequest through a simple codicil.

Charitable Lead Trust

Through a charitable lead trust, you can support PLWA generously for your lifetime or a specified number of years—and then reclaim the trust assets yourself or pass them along to your heirs. Establishing a charitable lead trust can have tax benefits, particularly regarding estate tax reductions for your heirs.

IRA Distributions

If you are 70 ½ or older and have an IRA, making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) to PLWA is a tax-smart way to make a donation.  The QCD allows you to direct IRA distributions, up to $100,000 per year, to qualified 501(c)3 charitable organizations.  Because the IRA income goes directly to charity, you do not report the distribution as income and do not pay any taxes. In addition to avoiding taxable income, your distribution will support PLWA’s critical access work.

Donate or Sell Items

Donating or selling quality items can help reduce clutter and raise money for public access! You can list items on a sale site like eBay or Craigslist and donate the profits to PLWA. Or, donate major items for sale, such as new high quality or high value items (read what makes sense here). We also accept Donated items or experiences to PLWA for auction.

Donate Cryptocurrency

We accept donations of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies! Go to cryptoforcharity.io and pick Public Land Water Access Association Inc. from the list. Donations of appreciated cryptocurrency don’t trigger capital gains taxes, and may be tax-deductible for the full value.

Retirement Account

If family members or friends are beneficiaries of your retirement funds, they could receive as little as 25% of your hard-earned money. Retirement accounts are taxed as income to your heirs, and in addition may be subject to estate tax. Alternatively, you can name PLWA as beneficiary of your retirement funds and make other estate provisions for loved ones.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Do you have valuable assets, such as appreciated stocks or a second home, that are “tied up” and not producing income? Would you like to have additional income for yourself, your spouse, a parent, or a child? Would you like to leave a generous gift to PLWA? If your answer is “all of the above,” then a charitable remainder trust may be the perfect choice for you.

Donor Advised Funds

We are certified to be the recipients of Fidelity, Schwab, and BNY Mellon Donor Advised Funds. A donor-advised fund is like a charitable investment account, for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about. When you contribute cash, securities, or other assets to a donor-advised fund at a public charity, you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Learn more here.

Donate Stocks

PLWA accepts donations of stocks, which can save you having to pay capital gains taxes when its liquidated. Simply go to stockdonator.com and pick Public Land Water Access Association Inc. from the list. Donations of stocks are free to donors, and your account can be used to benefit multiple non-profits!

Become a Lifetime Member

Lifetime Memberships require a one-time tax-deductible donation of $1000 towards PLWA's mission. Lifetime Members are invited to our annual meeting to receive select updates on PLWA projects, hear from the Executive Director & Board, and ask questions directly to the team. Donate above to become a lifetime member today!
