  • Pinky Gillum Bamboo Fly Rod

This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pick up a bamboo fly rod from one of the most respected, mythological & sought after rod makers of the 20th century. PLWA is ecstatic to offer a Harold “Pinky” Gillum bamboo fly rod as a fundraising raffle item for our 2024 annual meeting!  Pinky was known for his red hair and meticulous craftsmanship, building around only 2,000 rods in his lifetime. The rod is valued at approximately $4,000 and raffle tickets are only $40!

    DETAILS
The custom-built Pinky Gillum bamboo rod is a 10-foot, 3 piece, 2 tip and built for 6 or 7 weight line. The serial number is #751. It’s a multifaceted rod that could be used for streamers on the Yellowstone or swinging for salmon on the Oregon Coast. The rod is relatively light and stout and features a cigar shaped handle and nickel-silver Super-Z ferrules. The aluminum uplocking seat features an extension for a fighting butt and can be fished with either one or two hands.  The rod is lightly used and in excellent overall condition. It also comes with its original bag and rod case. Rod is missing the hook keeper.

We’ve had the rod inspected by the legendary Glenn Brackett of Sweetgrass Rods in Butte and Glenn was happy to report the rod is “as solid as you can expect for this many years”. Glenn also mentioned that all of the Super-Z ferrules are tight, and everything is original (including the bag and case). The rod has an extension but missing the fighting butt which Glenn has graciously offered to build for the lucky winner! A Pinky Gillum rod with a Glenn Brackett fighting butt! What could be more legendary?!?!

  • John Gibson's Rifle

John Gibson's riffle has come full circle and the "Old Gun" is back. You must live in Montana to win. All proceeds from this item will go to a future Gibson memorial in honor of John and his wife Carol. This item was generously donated by Harvey Nyberg, a PLWA friend and supporter, who won the rifle in a previous PLWA auction. The gun is a Enfield 30-06, former military rifle, that John paid to convert in 1957. It has a custom glass-bedded stock and newer trigger assembly. It has been drilled and tapped for a scope, which is a Weaver 4x. The front sight on the gun is now a civilian version added during the sporterization process. The bolt handle was heated and “re-contoured” to allow the bolt handle to operate properly with the scope on it. It has a low swing safety and the original barrel. From recent inspection, the gun was deemed “good and tight”. To read more about the history of the rifle and John Gibson's legacy visit: plwa.org/s/John-Gibson-Memorial-Newsletter_Final.pdf
